A successful season drew to a close with separate “At
homes” for both the Junior and Senior Clubs.
There is a lot of talent in the Junior Club which is being very ably
nurtured by Sandra Lambe and Susan Barry and this will insure that we have a
vibrant club in our new centre. Geoff
Barry has to build an extension to his home in order to house all the trophies
he won in the senior competitions. Thankfully
he wasn’t eligible for either the ladies singles or doubles!
The Men’s 1st team completed the double by winning
the 5A League final against Baldoyle at Whitehall on 13th May.
Geoff Barry, Johnny Wilson, Swapnil Gadkari and Gary Dowd are known as
the “mummies” because of all the bandages they have to put on before they
can even go on court! The team will
probably now be promoted next season which means a higher standard and a cardiac
ambulance on permanent stand by.
Unfortunately, most of the
parish badminton clubs in this area have closed in recent years.
This means there has to be a number of former players around who may like
an opportunity to take up the game again. Next
season you would be most welcome to join us here at St Paul’s.
Games are not overly competitive and the emphasis is very much on having
fun. Go up into the attic and locate
the racquet over the summer and come along, you would be most welcome

's Junior Badminton Club
The Junior Badminton Club
provides badminton coaching for 8 to 15 year old boys and girls of the parish.
We meet every Saturday at 4pm in the Parochial Hall during the season, which
normally extends from the end of September to the end of April. This year we
will start on the 4th September. There is a small subscription fee
which (just about) covers the cost of trophies and treats during the year.
We split the members into 2 or 3 groups, depending on numbers. Each week we
teach a new stroke and play games. Toward the end of the season we start playing
tournament matches, culminating in the “At Home” finals on the last day. All
parents and friends are invited and the President of the senior club presents
the cups and trophies.
Many of our junior members have gone on to the senior club and are participating
very successfully in the Dublin Leagues. The minimum age for the senior club is
sixteen.
If you’re over 8 and under 16 and would like to try badminton, please get in
touch or call down any Saturday.
New members always welcome! |
