Our midweek 11am Holy Communion service falls on Candlemas, which is celebrated 40 days after the birth of Jesus. It marks the date when Mary and Joseph brought the baby Jesus to be presented to God in the temple. Here, they met Anna and Simeon. Simeon held up the baby Jesus and named him, ‘the Light to the World’. As a result it became traditional for people to bring candles to their local church on this day to be blessed for use at home.
