Application forms for Junior Infants 2015 in Glenageary Killiney National School will be available for collection in person from the school office from Monday, November 3rd to Friday, November 14th, 2014 between 8.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. The closing date for receipt of completed application forms is Monday, November 17th, 2014 by 2.15 p.m.

The new music group led by Nathan Barrett will make its debut at  an informal act of worship for all ages in the Parish Centre at 6.30pm next Sunday, October 5th. The worship leader will be the parish intern Rev Abigail Sines. This will be followed by a supper of sausages and potato wedges. All very welcome.
Note that the evening service of Holy Communion will go ahead at 7pm as usual in the church.

The Archbishop of Dublin has set the  date for confirmation in this area as Sunday, February 1st, 2015.  There will be two services that day, morning and afternoon, and as there is now a policy of gathering the candidates from a number of parishes together in one church, there may not be a service in St Paul’s.  Those interested in being confirmed in 2015 (in at least second year at secondary school) should inform the Rector before Sunday, October 5th.  Tel: 01 280 1616 or email  garydowd@eircom.net. Classes will probably begin in November.

This Thursday’s Film Night (Sept 25th)  will feature the romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally, staring Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal (above) in the Parish Centre at 8 pm. Ms Abigail Sines (pictured below), who  will be working part-time in the parish for the next nine months, will be ordained a deacon in Christ Church Cathedral next Sunday, September 21st, at 3.30pm. All are welcome.

There will be a Service of Harvest Thanksgiving at 10.30 am in St Paul’s this Sunday, September 14th,  with speaker Lydia Monds of the Bishops’ Appeal.
It is also Sunday Club Welcome Day for children aged 4-11.  Sunday Club children should come to church for the start of the harvest service then leave for the Parish Centre.  Parents are invited to the centre after the service for coffee and a chat and to register their children for Sunday Club.

There will be a family outdoor service and barbecue in the church grounds this coming Sunday, September 7th. Please note the later starting time of 12 noon for the service, with food served afterwards. If the weather doesn’t co-operate, both events will go ahead indoors.
That same day we will welcome  Abigail Sines and Nathan Barrett, who will both be starting work amongst us. Abigail, who is to be our intern deacon, is training for the full-time ordained ministry. She will be ordained deacon in Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday, September 21st, at 3.30 pm, and will be with us on a part- time basis until June 2015. Nathan has been appointed as our new music group leader.

Dalkey Island Swim this Sunday

September 7th is also the day of  the annual Dalkey Island Swim, at 1pm from the area of Maiden Rocks (Dalkey Island) to Coliemore Harbour in aid of Kisiizi Hospital in Uganda. Each swimmer must commit to raising a minimum of €50 when registering. Safety boats will be organised but swimmers participate at their own risk. If you want to take part, please contact Peter Cravenpcraven@eircom.net. At present, based on the number of safety boats, the swim is limited to 30, so it’s first come, first served.

There will be a parish golf outing with our neighbours in Holy Trinity, Killiney, on Monday, September 22nd, at Killiney Golf Club. Teams of three at €65 per person (€35 for Killiney GC Members), with tee time from 2 pm-3.30 pm. A four-course meal at 8 pm is included. Non-players most welcome to the evening meal, at a cost of €25.  There is a limited number of spaces for golf, so contact Geoff Barry at tel 086 2383025 or by email, geoff@learn4life.ie, right away, or at least no later than Sunday, September 7th, to secure a tee time.This is a social, non-profit-making event.

St Paul’s choir was the first in the diocese to take part in a new scheme at Christ Church Cathedral whereby parish groups were invited to stand in for the resident singers during the summer holidays.
This is what the writer of the Christ Church Cathedral notes in this month’s edition of the diocesan magazine,The Church Review, reports:
“On Sunday 6^th July the choir of St Paul’s Church, Glenageary, came to sing at the Cathedral for the Sunday Eucharist. This delightful choir under the direction of Derek Verso gave of their best for the service.  Their singing was superb and the parish should be proud of having such a good choir.”
The choir needs new members, so if you, or anybody you know, is interested in finding out more, do contact the music director, Derek Verso on versod@indigo.ie. He is currently on holidays but choir practices will resume on Wednesday evenings in September.

Ms Abigail Sines, a third-year ordinand in the Theological Institute, will be joining us in St Paul’s from Sunday, September 7th, as part of her continuing training for full time ordained ministry.  She will be ordained deacon in Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday, September 21st, at 3.30 pm, and will be with us on a part- time basis until June 2015.
During that time she will be combining her continuing studies with opportunities to gain some practical experience of ministry here. I know you will make her feel very welcome amongst us.
