Countdown to Summer Fair, May 24th

Stallholders are trawling for stock to sell at our Summer Fair on Saturday, May 24th, 10.30am-2.30pm, in the Parish Centre , church and church grounds. Everything, from books and bottles to cakes and clothes (worn only once!) are needed, so start searching your attic and prepare to bake!

Alzheimer’s Tea Day

The Alzheimer’s Tea Day  in St Paul’s Parish Centre takes place this Friday, May 9th, 10.30am-12.30pm.  Your support for this very worthy, annual fund-raising event for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland would be much appreciated.  Donations of home baking and raffle prizes would also be most welcome.

Results of elections at parish AGM

There are four new people on the parish council, known as the Select Vestry, for the year ahead, following the AGM, or Easter General Vestry, on Sunday, April 27th. They are Walter HeseltineSarah GoodallStuart Robertson and Lynn Wiley.
The chairman, the  Rev Gary Dowd, thanked outgoing members who had indicated they did not wish to stand for re-election –  Deborah BurkeMary HeseltineMarianne Fegan and  Diane Middleton.
The other members of the Select Vestry for 2014-15 are:  Geoff Barry (rector’s churchwarden); Rita Dalton(representing the six who are job-sharing people’s churchwarden); Erica Pickering (rector’s glebewarden);Frank Gunning (people’s churchwarden); Dominic GalvinJoe HarveyKarene HiltonGary Holohan,Alan Lowther (treasurer), Sheila WaymanRoger West and Margaret Woods (secretary).
There were also triennial elections for parochial nominators and Diocesan Synod members and those elected were:

Parish AGM this Sunday

The Easter General Vestry Meeting (parish AGM) will be held after the 10.30 am service this Sunday, April 27th, at approximately 11.45 am in the Parish Centre.  Not only will this meeting elect the members of the parishoners’ representative body, the Select Vestry, for the year ahead, but it will also elect, for the next three years, parochial nominators (responsible for appointing a new rector if a vacancy were to occur) and parish representatives for the diocesan synod.
Sunday Club will be showing a DVD at the same time as the meeting, to enable parents to attend.

The Holy Week journey…

St Paul’s is hosting the opening service in the Holy Week nightly series for which we are joining three other neighbouring Church of Ireland parishes – Holy Trinity Killiney, St Matthias Ballybrack and Christ Church Dun Laoghaire. The theme for the week is the Characters of Holy Week.
Monday night’s service at 8 pm, which focuses on Lazarus, Mary and Martha, is sung Compline with the choir. Meanwhile there is 7.15 am Holy Communion in St Paul’s daily, Monday to Thursday, with two services on Good Friday, at 10.30 am and 2 pm.
Here is the full line up for the  entire week :

Parishes to join up for Holy Week services

St Paul’s is joining with three neighbouring parishes – Holy Trinity Killiney, St Matthias Ballybrack and Christ Church Dun Laoghaire – to mark Holy Week with nightly services. There will also be an early Holy Communion service daily in St Paul’s. Here is the line up of services for the entire week, which will take place in St Paul’s  unless otherwise stated:
Palm Sunday (April 13th)  8:15 am, 10:30 am and 7pm
Monday 14th–Thursday 17th Holy Communion 7.15am
Wednesday 16th  Holy Communion 11 am

Coffee morning for Daffodil Day

Help the Irish Cancer Society in its work to support the one in three of us who will develop cancer during our lifetime, by attending the Daffodil Day coffee morning and raffle in the Parish Centre this Friday, March 28th, 10.30am to 12.30pm. If you can help in the running of this event by baking, donating a raffle prize etc. your contribution would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Pamela at the Rectory. tel: 2801616.

Lent Discussion Group

Discussion Group will meet each Tuesday night in Lent, beginning  March 11th, in the Meeting Room of the Parish Centre at 8 pm.  Each meeting will last for about one hour and conclude with a cup of tea.  We will be using the Themed Biblical Lent Resource, Church and Culture, prepared by the Biblical Association for the Church of Ireland. The theme for week one is: Affirmation and Celebration. All are most welcome.
Meanwhile Every Wednesday throughout Lent there is a short service of Holy Communion at 7.15 am, in addition to the regular Wednesday morning communion service at 11 am.

14 teenagers to be confirmed

The Archbishop of Dublin, the Right Rev Michael Jackson, will be in St Paul’s this coming Sunday afternoon, March 9th,  for a Service of Confirmation with Holy Communion at 3pm. The 14 candidates are: Louise McEvoy, Eleanor Finney, Niamh Quirke, Laura Kendrick, Reece Jordan, Sally Heneghan, Jacob Hayes, Leah Moloney, Stephen Keane, Zofja Cautley, Sophie Temperley, Jodie Vard, Sophie Krywonis and Ben Walker. A rehearsal and vigil service for the 14 young people, to which their parents and god-parents are invited, will be held in the church on Saturday at 8pm.

Lent 2014

On Ash Wednesday (March 5th) and on each Wednesday throughout Lent there will be a short service of Holy Communion at 7.15 am in St Paul’s, as well as the regular Wednesday communion service at 11 am.
Lenten Discussion group will meet on Tuesday nights this year beginning on Tuesday, March 11th, in the Committee Room of the Parish Centre (upstairs ) at 8 pm.  Each meeting lasts for about one hour and concludes with a cup of tea.  All are welcome.  Further details to follow.
