The charming, off-beat comedy, Local Hero, written and directed by Bill Forsyth, will be shown at the next Parish Film Night on Thursday, November 30th. An American oil company sends a man to Scotland to buy up an entire village where they want to build a refinery. But things don’t go as expected. It stars Burt Lancaster, along with Peter Capaldi and Peter Riegert.

If you, or anybody you know, wants to apply for a place for a child in Junior Infants 2018 in Glenageary Killiney National School, please note that application forms are available for collection in person from the school office from today, Monday, November 6th until  Friday, November 17th, 2017, between 8.30am and 2.15pm.  The closing date for receipt of completed application forms is Monday, November 20th, 2017, by 2.15pm.

You are invited to participate in a time of quiet reflection at our annual Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance for Loved Ones  on Sunday, November 5th, at 7 pm as we remember those of our families and friends who have died.  If you would like the name of a loved one to be read out at this service, please add their name to the list that you will find on the table at the back of the church, or email the name to the Rector: garydowd@eircom.net. The names of those who have died in the parish since the service last year will automatically be read.

The speaker at our Service of Harvest Thanksgiving at 10.30am this Sunday, October 22nd, will be Moses Mugume, Senior Administrator at Kisiizi Hospital, in Uganda, which St Paul‘s has supported for many years.
The church will be decorated for Harvest this Saturday from 9.30 am. All are welcome to come and help – no experience necessary! Donations of vegetables, fruit or flowers will be gratefully received, and these will be given to the homeless afterwards. For more information, contact Harriet Greenlee 0872247195.
 The coffee/tea in the Parish Centre after the Harvest will be hosted by the Badminton Club, in aid of Blackrock Hospice.

Sunday Club starts again this Sunday, October 8th, and it will meet in the church during the 10.30am service on a trial basis.  Any children present will not leave the church for the parish centre as has been the tradition.
 Sunday Club will meet on the second and fourth Sundays in every month.

The St Paul’s Theatre Group is looking for volunteers to join in preparing for the 2018 pantomime, Jack & the Beanstalk. There are so many areas that people can get involved in: not just on stage, but with back stage, lighting, sound, costumes, set design etc Meetings are being held in the Parish Centre every Monday night at 8pm. Come along to find out more if you are interested. All welcome.

On Sunday, September 24th the Dun Laoghaire branch of the Royal British Legion will be retiring their old standard (ceremonial flag) and dedicating a new standard during the 10.30 am service at St Paul’s.  The war memorials in the Side Chapel have been moved together and cleaned, as the standard will be placed between them. It is hoped that some family members related to those whose names are commemorated on the memorials will attend the service. Such an event, as far as we know, has never happened in this country, and it’s thanks to the Rector and the Select Vestry for their support for this event.

All are invited to our annual Outdoor Service followed by Parish Family Barbecue in the church grounds this Sunday, September 3rd. Please note the later time of 12 noon for the start of this service. There is no admission fee for the barbecue but donations on the day to defray costs would be welcome. 
 This event will go ahead, regardless of the weather, but do dress warmly as we will only retreat into the Parish Centre if it rains.

There are still some places available for our Parish Outing to Kilkenny on Saturday, September 9th but remaining seats are also being offered to people in the “cluster” parishes, to ensure we have a full bus. Highlights of the day will include guided tours of St Canice’s Cathedral and Kilkenny Castle as well as a “road train” tour of the medieval city itself.
 The all-in price of €50 a head for the whole day also includes a two-course lunch at the renowned Langton House Hotel, morning coffee and scones during a stop at the Arboretum Garden Centre in Leighlinbridge on the way and, of course, door-to-door transport from St Paul’s to Kilkenny and back.
