Application forms  for places in Junior Infants for September 2016 at Glenageary Killiney National School (GKNS) are available for collection in person from the school office until this Friday, November 13th, between 8.30 am and 2.30 pm. The closing date for receipt of completed application forms is Monday, November 16th by 2.15pm.  The current admissions policy is available on gkns.ie.
Meanwhile, this Wednesday, November 11th is the deadline for the Bag2School fund-raising drive for the school. They are collecting clothes, shoes, handbags, soft toys.  But not: end of life clothing, bedding, curtains etc. An additional 10% will be donated to LauraLynn House, the children’s hospice.

Our 10.30am service this Remembrance Sunday, November 8th, will be Parish Communion with an Act of Remembrance to honour all those killed in wars. There will also be  Sunday Club. After church, the Badminton Club will be providing the coffee, in aid of the Blackrock Hospice. Please support generously.
Then at 6pm there will be the more informal Worship & Wedges for all ages in the Parish Centre, with the usual 7pm evening service, A Service of the Word, in the church.

There is a no more appropriate date for our Annual Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving of Loved Ones than Sunday, November 1st – All Saints Day, starting at 7pm. It is always a very moving service, with comforting liturgy, the lighting of individual candles and music sung by the choir.

Philip Molloy of Newstalk introduces a showing of Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window (1954) starring James Stewart  (pictured below) and Grace Kelly, this Thursday, October 22nd, in the Parish Centre at 8pm.  There is no charge but any donations on the night for the ongoing work of The Dining Room in Dun Laoghaire would be most welcome. The speaker at our service of Harvest Thanksgiving at 10.30am this Sunday, October 11th, will be Rosamond Bennett, chief executive of Christian Aid since 2012. Before that she worked in the corporate sector for more than 20 years, including as head of communications at the Northern Bank and as head of marketing for both Northern Bank and National Irish Bank. Rosamond is also an elder in Whitehead Presbyterian Church, Co Antrim.  We look forward to welcoming her to Glenageary
The church will be decorated for the harvest on Saturday from 9am.  All are welcome to come and help. Donations of vegetables, fruit or flowers will be gratefully received.

You are invited to bring your pet to church for a service of blessing and thanksgiving this Sunday, October 4th, at 10.30am. If you don’t have a real live one, a favourite toy animal will be welcome too. The speaker will be Mark Talbot accompanied by his guide dog Grogan, and there will be a retiring collection for the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind.

A bus  will leave from outside St Paul’s next Sunday, September 27th at 2pm for the ordination to the priesthood of our intern deacon for 2014-15, the Rev Abigail Sines (below), in Christ Church Cathedral at 3.30pm. It will be a shorter, more informal morning service this Sunday, September 20th, at 10.30am, with all ages participating throughout. The music will be led by the music group and backed by the choir. (There will also be services of Holy Communion at 8.15am and 7pm.)
Meanwhile Junior Badminton (for those aged nine to 15) starts this Saturday, September 19th, at 4.30pm in the Parish Centre. There will be coaches from Badminton Ireland, catering for all levels of ability.

A new season of Parish Film Nights begins this Thursday, September 17th, at 8pm in the Parish Centre. Philip Molloy of Newstalk will introduce a showing of the courtroom drama The Verdict starring Paul Newman (below) and directed by Sidney Lumet.
